October 18, 2011

on Tuesday, 18 October 2011.

Where has the time gone?  Seems like yesterday we were just starting into 2011 and here we are just a couple months from starting another new year. Things have been hopping around the shop the past several weeks.  This is normally our slow time of the year but with everything we have going on it sure doesn't feel very slow which is great and I am certainly not complaining about it.

I was always intrigued by statistics when I was in the Navy.  They would always put in the ships paper at the end of a cruise of how many gallons of JP5 (air craft fuel) and how many pounds of food the crew had consumed and several other things like that.  So one thing I have always watch is the number of hits the web site gets. I don't keep up with it like I use to but I still check on it regularly to see how the flow to the web site is going. When the site first went up it would get around 10-15 hits a day and would usually have around 300-350 hits a month.  Now it just amazes me when I check the stats.  We'll get anywhere from 450 to 600 hits a day and our monthly average is just over 15,000 hits.  So to say we have grown just a little over the past years is kind of an understatement.

I know I have addressed the rally cost in the past and sitting here today I am trying to figure out what we are going to do in the coming year.  I really enjoy working the rallies but I am having trouble justifying the rising cost of going versus the income we bring in during the rallies.  Yes, we work on a lot of seats but the cost of the rallies is pretty expensive for a vendor and it really kills me that some rallies pay vendors to set up but charge other vendors for them to set up which to me is totally bull sh@t.  So that is one reason we have stopped going to one rally we had been going to the past several years.  It really pisses me off that there are rally promoters doing that but what are you to do?  Stop going, which is what we did.  Enough said on that, it kind of ticks me off thinking about.

We have October filled on the schedule and are scheduling November currently and it won't be long till the cycle of heavy scheduling days are back on us again.  Usually after Thanksgiving the scheduling picks up pretty good and after Christmas is when the poop hits the fan.  We are getting a lot of calls asking questions about modifications and schedule dates right now and we are telling everyone we are 2-3 weeks out and they will tell us they will call back.  Then when they finally call back and find out we are 5-6 weeks out they will say, I just called a few weeks ago and you were only 2-3 weeks out when I called earlier.  My advice, schedule now because it's only going to get worse.

We are almost finished on the Harley tour pack liners.  The standard tour pack design is done, the chopped tour pack is almost done and I need someone with a Razor tour pack to get in touch with me so I can make the pattern for it.  I think once we start offering the tour pack liners the saddle bag liners are going to hit another gear and really take off.  We have a lot of people asking for both bags and tour pack liners and say they are going to wait to order all three at the same time.  It won't be long till we have the complete seat ready to go.

That's going to wrap up this week's up date.  Till next time stay warm and enjoy the ride.
